ZEREN manufactures custom instrument housings and matching covers using the lost wax investment casting process. The design combines an enclosure body, mounting flange, and connection bosses, with CNC machining available for threaded ports, mating faces, and mounting holes. Materials and surface finishes are selected according to customer drawings and operating requirements.

Casting Design

Investment casting allows the housing body, mounting base, and connection bosses to be formed as an integrated component. The separate cover can be produced through the same process, with machining applied where the two parts need controlled alignment and fit.

During drawing review, ZEREN evaluates wall thickness transitions, corner radii, cast openings, and machining allowances to identify features that may require adjustment before tooling begins.

Material Options

Material selection depends on the intended environment, mechanical requirements, and finishing specifications. Stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel options can be reviewed for custom housing projects.

The final material grade and manufacturing requirements are confirmed against the approved drawings.

Precision Machining

Lost wax casting produces the overall geometry, while CNC machining establishes dimensions and surfaces that require tighter control.

Typical machining areas include:

  • Threaded connection ports to the specified thread standard.

  • Housing and cover mating faces.

  • Mounting holes and locating features.

  • Central openings and internal fitting surfaces.

Casting and machining requirements are reviewed together so that sufficient machining stock is provided without adding unnecessary material.

Quality Checks

Inspection focuses on the features that affect fit and assembly. Depending on the agreed inspection plan, checks can include casting appearance, material composition, overall dimensions, mounting-hole positions, and thread conformity.

For housing-and-cover projects, mating dimensions and assembly fit can also be checked against approved requirements. Any sealing performance, ingress protection, or explosion-protection requirements must be separately specified and validated for the completed assembly.

Custom Orders

Send ZEREN your 2D drawings, 3D files, and estimated order quantity for a manufacturing review and quotation.

To help define the scope, please include:

  • Required material grade.

  • Critical dimensions and tolerances.

  • Thread specifications.

  • Surface treatment requirements.

  • Inspection and documentation needs.

  • Whether the housing, cover, or both are required.

We review casting feasibility and machining requirements before tooling, then produce samples for approval before batch production.
